Retro Royale mode brings Clash Royale back to its roots

by Mia May 17,2025

Supercell continues to innovate and refresh its top releases, and the latest update to Clash Royale is no exception. Celebrating the game's anniversary, Supercell is taking players back to 2017 with the exciting new Retro Royale Mode. Available for a limited time from March 12th to the 26th, this mode promises a nostalgic experience packed with new rewards.

In Retro Royale Mode, players will dive into a time capsule, choosing from a limited pool of 80 cards reminiscent of the game's launch. As you climb the 30-step Retro Ladder, you'll have the chance to earn Gold and Season Tokens, making every match count. The competition intensifies as you ascend, and upon reaching the Competitive League, your starting rank will be determined by your Tropy Road progress. From there, it's all about showcasing your skills and climbing the leaderboard with your Retro Royale performance.

While it might seem counterintuitive to introduce a retro mode right after discussing Supercell's efforts to keep their games fresh, there's a clear distinction between feeling dated and embracing nostalgia. With the enticing rewards on offer, it's hard to imagine Clash Royale fans not wanting to jump into this blast from the past.

And there's more: by competing in both the Retro Ladder and the Competitive League at least once, you'll earn a special badge for each, adding to the allure of this limited-time event.
