Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090: 32GB GDDR7 Memory and 575W Power Draw
Leaked information suggests Nvidia's upcoming RTX 5090 graphics card will feature a substantial 32GB of GDDR7 video memory—double that of the anticipated RTX 5080 and 5070 Ti. This high-performance card, however, demands a significant 575W power supply. The official unveiling of the entire RTX 50 series, including the RTX 5090, is slated for Nvidia's CES 2025 keynote on January 6th.
The RTX 50 series, codenamed Blackwell, represents Nvidia's next-generation graphics cards, arriving over two years after the RTX 40 series launch. Building on the success of its predecessors, the RTX 50 series will leverage Tensor Cores for AI processing, DLSS upscaling, ray tracing capabilities, and PCIe 5.0 support where compatible. This new lineup will replace the RTX 40 series (some models like the RTX 4090D and RTX 4070 have already been discontinued) and directly compete with AMD's Radeon RX 9000 and Intel's Battlemage GPUs.
Pre-CES leaks from Inno3D, an Nvidia AIB partner, revealed details about their iChill X3 RTX 5090. This triple-fan card occupies more than three expansion slots. The packaging confirmed the 32GB GDDR7 memory and the hefty 575W power draw—a considerable increase from the RTX 4090's 450W.
The Nvidia RTX 5090: High Memory, High Cost
Key features of the RTX 5090, as per Inno3D:
- 32GB GDDR7 video memory (double the expected capacity of the RTX 5080 and 5070 Ti).
- 575W power draw, necessitating a robust power supply.
- Official reveal at CES 2025 on January 6th.
The RTX 50 series will utilize a 16-pin power connector, though adapters will be provided. While the specifications are impressive, the RTX 5090 is anticipated to carry a premium price tag, potentially starting at $1,999 or higher. Nvidia has yet to confirm pricing.
The RTX 5080 and RTX 5070 Ti will be unveiled alongside the RTX 5090 at Nvidia's CES keynote. The arrival of this new generation promises exciting advancements, but the market response remains to be seen.
