Neutronized's Shadow Trick: A Charming Retro Platformer
Neutronized, the studio behind this year's Shovel Pirate and other titles like Slime Labs 3, Super Cat Tales, and Yokai Dungeon: Monster Games, has released a new platformer: Shadow Trick. This free-to-play game retains Neutronized's signature style: short, fun, cute, and simple, with a charming 16-bit pixel art aesthetic.
Shadowy Gameplay
In Shadow Trick, players control a wizard capable of transforming into a shadow to solve puzzles. This core mechanic involves strategically shifting between physical and shadow forms to navigate treacherous environments, bypass obstacles, and evade enemies.
The game unfolds across a magical castle, featuring diverse biomes, hidden dangers, and challenging bosses. With 24 levels and three hidden moon crystals per level, collecting all 72 crystals requires skillful play and perfect boss battles (no damage taken!). Expect some tricky encounters; for instance, a red ghost enemy can reappear after seemingly vanishing.
The environments are varied and visually appealing, even including water levels where shadow form is essential for navigation, introducing unique aquatic boss encounters.
Worth a Look?
Shadow Trick boasts impressive visuals, particularly for fans of retro pixel art. The environments are detailed, and the chiptune soundtrack adds to the game's charm. If you're looking for a fun, free platformer with a retro feel, check it out on the Google Play Store.
