Sony Pulled GTA 6 Parody Game Grand Taking Ages From the PlayStation Store — but It’s Now Cleared for Release on Steam

by Sadie Feb 20,2025

The creators of the controversial Grand Theft Auto 6 parody, Grand Taking Ages, have successfully launched the game on Steam after its removal from the PlayStation Store. This management simulator, which satirizes the long-awaited GTA 6, initially faced scrutiny for its AI-generated assets and misleading marketing.

Following Sony's removal of the game from its PlayStation Store, the developers, Violarte, made significant changes to secure approval from Valve. These adjustments included removing the "VI" from the title, redesigning the logo, and revising descriptions to better distinguish the game from Rockstar's GTA 6. While the game still utilizes AI-generated assets, including voiceovers (as disclosed on the Steam page), the updated presentation aims to solidify its parody status.

Grand Taking Ages is now available on Steam.

Violarte adopted a proactive approach with Valve, engaging with their team before submission to ensure compliance with their guidelines. They cited similar parody projects, such as "Grand Theft Hamlet," as precedent for protecting such works from takedowns. The updated Steam page features a new trailer and screenshots, emphasizing the game's comedic parody elements. The new description reads:

Coming Soon Since Forever! Start your game dev journey in mom's garage! Battle angry fans, dodge ruthless journalists, and perfect the art of "creative" deadlines. Survive on pizza and energy drinks while building your dream studio into... a slightly better garage!

Despite the Steam success, Violarte aims to reinstate Grand Taking Ages on the PlayStation Store, citing the changes made as sufficient to address Sony's previous concerns. They've submitted a request to Sony, highlighting Valve's approval as evidence of the game's revised compliance.

The game's trailer utilizes AI-generated voiceovers.

The contrast between Sony's and Valve's approaches to content curation is stark. While Sony's stricter policies led to the initial removal, Valve's more lenient approach is well-known. The incident raises questions about the evolving landscape of digital distribution and the increasing use of AI in game development. Rockstar's GTA 6 is still slated for release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in the fall of 2025.
