Hazelight Games announced that their latest co-op adventure, Split Fiction, has continued its impressive start by selling 2 million copies within just one week of its release. Launched on March 6 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S, the game quickly established itself as another triumph for the studio. Hazelight expressed their gratitude on social media, stating they are “blown away” by the overwhelming support from both new and returning fans.
Just 48 hours after its debut, Split Fiction had already captivated 1 million players with its sci-fi narrative featuring protagonists Mio and Zoe. Remarkably, an additional million copies were sold in the subsequent five days, showcasing the game's rapid growth in popularity.
Given its nature as a co-op game, the actual number of players enjoying Split Fiction likely far exceeds the number of units sold. The game's innovative Friend’s Pass feature further amplifies its reach, allowing one player to buy the game and share it with a friend for free. As buzz around Split Fiction continues to grow on social media, sales figures are expected to climb even higher.
Hazelight's previous success, 2021 Game of the Year winner It Takes Two, followed a similar trajectory. It sold approximately 1 million copies shortly after its March 2021 release, eventually reaching 10 million copies by February 2023 and an impressive 20 million by October 2024.
In IGN's review of Split Fiction, the game was praised as “an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another,” highlighting its dynamic and engaging gameplay.
