Square Enix Cancels Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link

by Harper May 15,2025

Square Enix has officially canceled their upcoming mobile spin-off, Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, an action RPG that promised to explore a previously unseen chapter in the Kingdom Hearts saga. Despite much anticipation, including plans for an Android closed beta test, the project faced multiple delays, leading Square Enix to shift their focus entirely to the development of Kingdom Hearts IV.

Missing-Link was set to feature a unique blend of GPS technology and ARPG combat, allowing players to wield iconic keyblades against the menacing Heartless across different global locations. Although the exact mechanics of the GPS integration remained somewhat unclear, this innovative approach was a significant selling point for the game. However, the complexity and novelty of these features might have contributed to the decision to cancel the project.

ytBe there or be squareSquare Enix's decision to cancel mobile projects has become a notable trend, often attributed to the dense and complex nature of their game catalog. While new mobile releases are generally well-received in Japan, finding an international audience can be challenging. This issue, however, was unlikely to impact Kingdom Hearts due to its global popularity. It appears that the core concept of Missing-Link proved difficult to execute, prompting Square Enix to redirect their resources toward the eagerly awaited Kingdom Hearts IV.
