Chrono Trigger-Inspired RPG “Threads of Time” Releasing on Xbox Series X/S and PC
Threads of Time PS5 and Switch Release Unconfirmed
Threads of Time, a captivating 2.5D RPG inspired by legendary titles such as Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy, was unveiled at the Xbox showcase during Tokyo Game Show 2024. Crafted by the indie studio Riyo Games, this game is currently being developed for Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam. Although an official release date has not been announced, and versions for PS5 and Nintendo Switch remain unconfirmed, anticipation is high.
Threads of Time is poised to challenge the acclaimed RPG Sea of Stars from 2023, positioning itself as a spiritual successor to Square Enix's cherished Chrono series. As Riyo Games' debut title, it encapsulates the essence of retro-style RPGs while infusing them with a modern twist.
"Riyo Games’ vision is to craft retro-infused RPGs that awaken treasured childhood memories," the studio stated in its press release. "It all started with a promise between two kids, huddled next to their CRT TV playing RPGs after school, to one day create fantastical, story-rich adventures together."
Threads of Time features stunning 2.5D pixel art and invites players to join a vibrant cast of characters from various eras on a journey through time. The narrative spans centuries, from the age of dinosaurs to the era of mechanical robots, leading players to unravel a sinister plot that threatens the very fabric of time. Alongside its pixel art, the game includes cutting-edge anime cutscenes that enhance its intricate storyline.
The game introduces a diverse set of party members, including Rye, a mysterious young swordsman from 1000 AD; Bo, a skilled veterinarian from 12,000,000 BC; and Rin, a blade-wielding kitsune from 2400 AD, among others. Fans eager to dive into this adventure can now wishlist Threads of Time on the Xbox store and Steam.
