Transformers: Gameplay Footage Surfaces Despite Cancellation

Recently canceled Transformers: Reactivate, a co-op game unveiled by Splash Damage in 2022, has resurfaced in the form of leaked gameplay footage. The game, a collaboration between Splash Damage and Hasbro, was intended to feature iconic Generation 1 Autobots and Decepticons uniting against an alien threat, "the Legion," to defend Earth.

Despite its 2022 announcement at The Game Awards, Transformers: Reactivate saw minimal public exposure beyond leaks and related merchandise. The game's cancellation led to speculation, and now, leaked footage from a 2020 build offers a glimpse into its potential.

The leaked footage showcases Bumblebee navigating a destroyed cityscape, seamlessly transforming between robot and vehicle modes while engaging the Legion. The gameplay bears resemblance to Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, albeit with a different antagonist. Despite some unfinished textures, the footage demonstrates a polished aesthetic, including environmental destruction. A silent cutscene concludes the clip, depicting Bumblebee emerging from a portal and communicating with an ally, Devin, regarding the Legion's attacks.

Numerous other leaks dating back to 2020, predating the official announcement and cancellation, further illustrate the game's development. While Transformers: Reactivate will remain unplayed, the leaked footage provides insight into Splash Damage's ambitious, yet ultimately abandoned, project.

Summary

Developed by Splash Damage in collaboration with Hasbro.
