Ubisoft is setting sail to make Skull and Bones Year 2 the most exciting chapter yet for the pirate multiplayer game. With a treasure trove of new content on the horizon, including fresh game modes, new ships, the legendary Kraken, and a much-anticipated feature—land combat—players have a lot to look forward to.
During a special Year 2 showcase that premiered yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled its ambitious plans for the upcoming year. The highlight of the presentation was undoubtedly Season 3: Guts and Glory, set to launch this fall, which will finally introduce land combat—a feature fans have been clamoring for since the game's debut last February.
Season 3's Rogue Warlord update will allow players to step away from the high seas and engage in thrilling swordfights and firearms battles on land. This expansion will include adventures on sandy beaches and within damp caves, where players can rescue skilled crewmembers known as Officers. A teaser video provided a glimpse of what to expect, though we'll need to wait until later this year for the full experience.
While land combat is the crown jewel of Skull and Bones Year 2, the showcase revealed a wealth of other exciting updates. Season 1: Ascent into Chaos, which launches today, April 15, introduces an item ascension feature to enhance loot, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the team-based Death Tides PvP mode. Season 2: Oaths of War, slated for summer 2025, will bring Megaforts and the imposing Frigate large ships. Finally, Season 4: Eye of the Beast, set for this winter, promises encounters with the Kraken, the introduction of the Hunter’s Guild, and the addition of the Corvette large ship.
If these updates have piqued your interest, you're in luck. Ubisoft is hosting a free weekend from April 17 to 21, giving players the chance to experience pirate PvP firsthand. Additionally, the game will be available at a discounted price during this period, though the exact discount has yet to be revealed.
Skull and Bones set sail on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, earning a solid 7/10 in our review. Although Ubisoft has not disclosed official sales figures, they did mention achieving "record player engagement" shortly after launch.
