To access the crafting recipes for upgraded weapons in *Atomfall*, you first need to unlock the Gunsmithing skill. This survival skill can be learned by reading the Crafting Manual. While finding these skill-related books can be challenging, there's a straightforward method to acquire this one.

Head to Morris Wick at the Village Shop in Wyndham, who has a copy of the Crafting Manual. However, obtaining it requires more than just bartering; you'll need to engage in some strategic blackmail. Upon entering St. Katherine’s Church, you'll encounter dialogue about the recent murder of Maisie, which the Vicar wants to cover up. Further investigation will lead you to evidence implicating Morris in the crime, located in the Brewery Cellar at coordinates 30.5 E, 80.5 N in the west of Wyndham Village. Enter through the cellar door by the ruined building and search for the note titled "Kill the One They Call Maisie".

After securing the note, return to Morris’ Village Shop at 33.3 E, 79.9 N. Engage in dialogue that pressures Morris without overt threats until you reach the "Bargaining" option. Selecting this will prompt Morris to hand over the Crafting Manual in exchange for your silence.

Alternatively, the Crafting Manual can be found in the D Section of The Interchange, though this method is more time-consuming and challenging.

Once you have the Crafting Manual, read it and then spend 7 Training Stimulants to acquire the Gunsmith skill. This unlocks the recipes for crafting upgraded weapons. Make sure to search B.A.R.D. structures like Bunkers and The Interchange to gather the necessary skill points.

With the Crafting Manual and the Gunsmith skill in hand, you'll have access to recipes for crafting weapon upgrades. Each time you acquire a weapon, you unlock the recipe to craft its next highest tier, progressing from Rusty to Stock, and finally to Pristine. To upgrade a weapon, you'll need two of the same weapon in the previous tier, along with Gun Oil and Scrap. The required amounts of these materials may vary.

For instance, upgrading the Falkirk Battle Rifle to Pristine requires 2 Falkirk Battle Rifles (Stock), 3 Gun Oil, and 6 Scrap. These resources are most commonly found at military installations, such as Protocol Camps. If you plan on frequently upgrading your weapons, consider investing in the Deep Pockets survival skill to carry more crafting supplies.

Upgrading a weapon to Pristine for the first time will earn you the 'Make do and mend' Achievement or Trophy.

*Atomfall* is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox Game Pass.
