According to a recent Bloomberg report, Warner Bros. has canceled an unannounced paid DLC for the popular game, Hogwarts Legacy. The planned story expansion was set to launch this year, alongside a "Definitive Edition" of the game. However, the decision to cancel came after concerns surfaced that "the amount of content was not substantial enough to justify the price being considered." Warner Bros. did not provide a comment when approached by Bloomberg regarding this decision.
This cancellation is part of a broader restructuring within Warner Bros.' gaming division, which is grappling with financial challenges. Earlier this year, the company also canceled a planned Wonder Woman game and shut down the studio behind it, Monolith Productions, as well as WB San Diego and the MultiVersus studio, Player First Games. Additionally, Warner Bros. conducted layoffs at Rocksteady in September of the previous year.
Despite these setbacks, Warner Bros. continues to view Hogwarts Legacy and the Harry Potter franchise as key assets. The company has emphasized that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is "one of the biggest priorities," aligning with its strategy to focus on fewer, yet more significant, franchises. The original game has achieved remarkable success, selling over 30 million copies.
