Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Player Creates Incredible Super Mario Galaxy-Inspired Video

A video montage that was recently shared online turned The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom into Super Mario Galaxy. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which is the sequel to 2017's Breath of the Wild, was released in May 2023.

Tears of the Kingdom is the latest mainline entry in the popular Legend of Zelda series of action-adventure games. As major launches from Japanese gaming juggernaut Nintendo, both Tears of the Kingdom and its predecessor have often been compared in terms of quality to the publisher's other hits like Pokemon's Generation 9 games, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, as well as titles under Nintendo's flagship Super Mario franchise. A gamer, through a well-edited video, has attempted to show the similartities between Tears of the Kingdom and one particular Super Mario experience.

In a recent Reddit post, user Ultrababouin shared their Super Mario Galaxy-inspired Tears of the Kingdom video titled "Super Zelda Galaxy." The edit is filled with references to the 2007 Wii release, considered by some to be one of the best Mario games story-wise, and it left some community members feeling nostalgic. One such reference was the recreation of Super Mario Galaxy's opening level sequence, which featured the game's legendary hero waking up and encountering a Luma on a small planet.

Ultrababouin uploaded their video to the Hyrule Engineering subreddit, a hub where Tears of the Kingdom players can share their in-game creations. The montage took nearly a month to complete, and it was an entry in the community's design contest for June. Ultrababouin has submitted other works in the past, such as a Tears of the Kingdom version of the Master Cycle Zero, and the builder was even crowned Engineer of the Month in December and February.

The Master Cycle Zero is a Rune in Breath of the Wild that acts like a horse-shaped motorcycle. While this item did not appear in Tears of the Kingdom, the newer title did introduce a build system that allowed the construction of vehicles and other machines. Players have used this sytem to create all sorts of things, with one Hyrule Engineering member who goes by the name ryt1314059 even making an aircraft carrier in Tears of the Kingdom that had the ability to launch a working bomber.

The next mainline installment in The Legend of Zelda, Echoes of Wisdom, is set to come out on September 26. Unlike The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and most of the series' other entries, Echoes of Wisdom will star the franchise's titular princess instead of recurring protagonist Link.
