Genki's CES 2025 Switch 2 Mockup Reveals Key Features

Genki, a prominent handheld gaming accessory developer, unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing several key design features. This model, reportedly based on a black market acquisition, showcased accurate dimensions and several notable upgrades.

The mockup highlighted a larger form factor, approaching the size of Valve's Steam Deck. Most significantly, it featured magnetic Joy-Con controllers, a second USB-C port, and an enigmatic "C" button. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the magnetic Joy-Con design in an interview with The Verge, explaining a mechanism using pins to release the controllers. Despite the magnetic attachment, Tsai emphasized the secure feel during gameplay.

Further details emerged regarding the Joy-Con's "mounting channel," which incorporates optical sensors. This suggests potential functionality as a mouse, corroborated by recently leaked Switch 2 images.

While the Switch 2's increased size allows it to physically fit within the existing Switch dock, design modifications prevent compatibility. The purpose of the additional USB-C port and the "C" button remains unknown.
