Vincent D'Onofrio: Wilson Fisk's Movie Appearance Blocked by Rights Issues

by Hunter Apr 20,2025

Vincent D’Onofrio, known for his captivating portrayal of the notorious Wilson Fisk in the Marvel series *Daredevil*, has revealed some disappointing news for fans hoping to see the villain on the big screen. In a recent interview on the podcast *Happy Sad Confused* with Josh Horowitz, D’Onofrio stated, "The only thing I know is not positive. It's a very hard thing to do, for Marvel to use my character. It's a very hard thing to do, because of ownership and stuff." He elaborated that due to legal rights and ownership issues, his character is restricted to television appearances only, dashing hopes for a standalone Wilson Fisk movie or any appearances in upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe films like *Spider-Man: Brand New Day* and *Avengers: Doomsday*. This development might also impact potential projects like a *Charlie Cox Daredevil* movie, where fans would expect to see D’Onofrio reprise his role as the formidable antagonist.

D’Onofrio first brought Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin, to life in the 2015 Netflix series *Daredevil*. Over three seasons and nearly 40 episodes, his performance as New York City’s most powerful crimelord and future mayor garnered widespread acclaim from both fans and critics. D’Onofrio's approach to the character is deeply influenced by classic performances, as he shared with IGN last month. He draws inspiration from the likes of Harrison Ford and other legendary actors, particularly their ability to infuse action scenes with a sense of humility and realism. "Anytime they were in a fight, or they were holding a gun, they looked nervous," D’Onofrio noted, citing examples like Gary Cooper in *Sergeant York*. "They carried their own humility into the action scenes with them. And I always thought that that was the way to go. That made it look real to me... I think that helps action stuff a lot. We're all very conscious of that."

Currently, fans can catch D’Onofrio in *Daredevil: Born Again*, which is airing weekly on Disney+ and is set to conclude its first season on April 15, 2025.
