Call of Duty: Warzone players are experiencing game freezes and crashes during loading screens, sometimes resulting in unfair penalties. While a permanent fix is still under development, developers have implemented a temporary solution.
Following reports of widespread issues starting January 6th, Raven Software announced on January 9th that Skill Rating (SR) penalties and timeouts would be temporarily suspended for players disconnecting before joining Ranked matches. This addresses player concerns over unwarranted punishments caused by the ongoing bug. The Trello bug tracker still lists the issue as unresolved.
This temporary fix is a significant improvement. Previously, crashes resulted in SR point loss and temporary match bans. The irony is that the penalty system, requested by players years ago, is now causing problems due to unforeseen bugs. The current approach maintains penalties for mid-match disconnections while mitigating the impact of pre-match crashes.
Despite a major update in early January 2025, bugs persist, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by the development team. While the temporary fix alleviates immediate frustration, the unresolved core issue and its disruption to Ranked play remain a concern for many players. The Warzone team is actively working on a permanent solution.
