State of Decay 3 is unlikely to come out before 2026

Xbox insider Jez Corden, during a recent episode of the Xbox Two podcast, hinted that State of Decay 3 is now looking at a 2026 release. While initial plans reportedly targeted a 2025 launch, it seems those have shifted. Corden suggests an early 2026 release is more likely.

He added that development is further along than many might realize, though he offered no specifics. This news might disappoint fans eager for the next installment, but it’s a more optimistic timeline than previous rumors suggesting a 2027 release.

June saw the release of a new trailer, showcasing intense gun battles against hordes of zombies and post-apocalyptic vehicles reminiscent of the Mad Max franchise. The game's narrative will unfold years after the apocalypse, focusing on human survivors building and defending settlements against the undead threat.

State of Decay 3 is in development for PC and Xbox Series X|S. The last game in the series launched in 2018.
