Toby Fox, the mastermind behind Undertale and Deltarune, has recently provided an exciting update on the testing phase for Chapters 3 and 4 of Deltarune. Dive in to discover the latest on console testing and what fans can look forward to in the near future.
Deltarune's Console Testing Progressing Smoothly
In a recent update on his official Bluesky account, Toby Fox shared that console testing for Deltarune is making steady progress. Despite the challenges, Fox remains optimistic about the development process. "Still console testing. There are fewer bugs, but there's a lot to go through. (Haven't even tested PS5 yet)," he noted, indicating that while there's still much to be done, things are moving forward.
One of the most anticipated features is the ability to transfer saves from the demo (Chapters 1 and 2) to the full game on console versions. Fox mentioned that they've only recently acquired the technology needed for this feature, expressing hope for its successful implementation: "I hope it works!"
With the beta testing showing promising results, a release date for Deltarune Chapters 3 and 4 might be closer than we think. Toby Fox has confirmed that these chapters are set to launch sometime in 2025.
Toby Fox Teases New Character, Tenna
Amidst the rigorous testing and development, Toby Fox continues to engage with fans through playful updates. Known for his witty humor and clever use of internet memes, Fox shared a light-hearted moment on social media: "I showed my family and friends a minigame I've been working on for DR (Deltarune) and they all described it as ‘a cry for help because your game is not out’." His family reassured him that it's a good thing, while a friend couldn't stop laughing for about 10 minutes.
This minigame has sparked speculation among fans, especially since Fox previously stated in 2024 that the content for Chapters 3 and 4 is complete. Some believe this could be a sneak peek into Chapter 5, as Deltarune is planned to have a total of seven chapters.
In the same post, Fox also mentioned a character named Tenna, saying, "Same friend who played Chapter 3 like over a year ago also told me ‘I miss Tenna’ and I was like ‘man that's something no one in the world has ever said huh’." Tenna, who first appeared during the Spamton Sweepstakes campaign in September 2022 for the Child’s Play charity, is set to make an appearance in Chapter 3.
Deltarune serves as a spiritual successor to the beloved Undertale, retaining many of the original game's mechanics while introducing a fresh narrative and a new cast of characters. Players will join Kris, Susie, and Ralsei on an epic quest to save the world.
