How to Find and Evolve Bagon in Pokémon SV

by Olivia Feb 22,2025

This guide details how to obtain Bagon, Shelgon, and Salamence in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Bagon, a Dragon-type Pokémon evolving into the powerful Salamence, is exclusive to Pokémon Violet. This guide covers location, trading, evolution, and Salamence's viability in battle.

Bagon's Location (Pokémon Violet):

Several locations in Pokémon Violet yield Bagon:

  • East Province (Area Three): This expansive area, rich with explorable caves, is a prime hunting ground.
  • South Province (Area Five): A fixed spawn Bagon resides atop a mountain southwest of the bridge separating grassy and rocky regions.
  • Dalizapa Passage: Located north of the Great Crater and south of Glaseado Mountain, this area features a deep cavern accessible by Koraidon/Miraidon, containing Bagon and other rare Pokémon.
  • 3-Star Tera Raids: Once you've earned three Gym Badges, Bagon may appear in 3-star Tera Raids. Note that its Tera Type may differ from its normal type. These raids offer a chance to obtain Bagon with its Hidden Ability.

Acquiring Bagon in Pokémon Scarlet:

Since Bagon isn't naturally found in Pokémon Scarlet, trading or transferring is necessary:

  • Trading: Utilize the Union Circle to connect with Pokémon Violet players and trade. A Nintendo Switch Online membership is required for online features.
  • Pokémon HOME: Transfer Bagon from compatible games (Pokémon Sword/Shield, Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl, or other Pokémon HOME-compatible titles) following these steps:
    1. Move Bagon to your HOME Basic Box.
    2. Open your Pokémon Scarlet game and transfer Bagon from the Basic Box to a PC Box.

Evolving Bagon:

Bagon evolves into Shelgon at level 30 and into Salamence at level 50. Efficient leveling methods include:

  • Auto-Battling: Use auto-battle against appropriately leveled Pokémon (Chansey is recommended for experience).
  • Exp. Candy: Exp. Candy L or XL significantly boosts levels.

Shelgon and Salamence can also be obtained from 4-star and 5/6-star Tera Raids, respectively.

Salamence's Battle Viability:

Salamence, a Dragon/Flying pseudo-legendary (600 base stat total), remains a formidable Pokémon.

  • Stats: HP 95, Attack 135, Defense 80, Special Attack 110, Special Defense 80, Speed 100.
  • Nature: Adamant (+Attack, -Special Attack) or Lonely (+Attack, -Defense) are recommended for physical attackers; Timid (+Speed, -Attack) for special attackers.
  • Strengths/Weaknesses: Super effective against Dragon-type Pokémon; quadruple weakness to Ice, and weaknesses to Fairy, Dragon, and Rock. Resists Grass, Water, Fire, Fighting, and Bug; immune to Ground.

Recommended Moves:

Salamence's high Attack stat lends itself to physical moves like Dragon Claw. Iron Head (TM099) counters Fairy and Rock weaknesses. For a special attacker build, Draco Meteor and Flamethrower are effective choices.

This comprehensive guide ensures you can add Salamence to your Pokémon Scarlet and Violet team. Remember to utilize the available resources and strategies for efficient acquisition and training.
