Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin has weighed in on the recently announced Elden Ring film, and his reaction appears largely favorable.
Martin, who contributed to the backstory of FromSoftware's acclaimed title, expressed enthusiasm that the movie adaptation will be directed by Alex Garland, known for Ex Machina, Civil War, and Annihilation.
On his blog, Martin hailed Garland as a "top-tier filmmaker" and praised production studio A24 as "exceptional." He described his overall feeling about the announcement as "optimistic," sharing a YouTube video titled "Why the Elden Ring Movie WON'T SUCK."
While Martin is evidently excited, there is no indication he is directly involved in the production. The author is currently managing multiple commitments, including an animated Hercules movie revealed just last month.
News of Martin's role in A Dozen Tough Jobs, which reimagines the Greek myth in an early 20th-century context, drew renewed criticism from Game of Thrones fans still anticipating The Winds of Winter.
Addressing the backlash recently, Martin conceded that "some of you will be frustrated by this" and acknowledged that many have "lost hope" in him completing the next book—let alone the final novel in the series.
"I hope everyone feels the same excitement I do about this film," Martin remarked regarding the Hercules project.

The Winds of Winter, the long-awaited next entry in Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, remains unfinished with no release date in sight. It has been 14 years since A Dance with Dragons was published in 2011.
Details about the Elden Ring movie remain scarce, though Garland is said to be interested in collaborating again with Heartstopper and Warfare star Kit Connor for a major part. The project has not yet entered production, nor has a release window been announced.
