Hyper Light Breaker, the eagerly awaited sequel to the indie hit Hyper Light Drifter, introduces significant changes to the original game's formula. It transitions from a 2D pixel art style to a visually stunning 3D environment, shifts from a linear RPG to a rogue-lite with extraction mechanics, and crucially, incorporates multiplayer functionality.

Playing Hyper Light Breaker with friends is not just an option; it's a core feature that enhances the gameplay experience, making challenges more manageable and victories more rewarding. This guide will walk you through the steps to enjoy Hyper Light Breaker in co-op mode with your friends, as well as how to engage in random online matchmaking with public groups.

How To Play Hyper Light Breaker With Friends

To dive into co-op multiplayer in Hyper Light Breaker, you'll need to set up a Private multiplayer room. Once you spawn into the Cursed Outpost, the game's hub zone, locate the counter to the left of your commander, Pherus Bit, who is positioned just opposite the doorway leading into the Outpost.

Approach the counter and press the Interact button (usually R1 or RB) to access the Multiplayer menu. Here, you can create your own Breaker Team, join an existing one, or check your Invitations. To play with friends, select "Create Breaker Team".

In the subsequent menu, toggle "Password Required" to "On" and enter a password. After setting up your private Breaker Team, invite up to two friends using your platform's social service – whether it's PSN, Xbox, or Steam. The game supports groups of up to three players.

If your friend is already in-game, they'll receive the invitation in the "Invitations" tab of the Multiplayer menu. Otherwise, they can join your session via the invitation link you sent them.

Your team might also appear in the general listing of Breaker Teams if there's room for more players. If other methods fail, your friend can search through this list and join your Private group directly.

Once your friend accepts the invite and enters the correct password, you're all set to embark on thrilling co-op runs in Hyper Light Breaker.

Random Online Matchmaking In Hyper Light Breaker

If you're eager to play multiplayer but don't have friends who own Hyper Light Breaker, the game's system allows you to join public groups. You can either create your own public group by following the steps above without setting a password, or join an existing one through the Hyper Light Breaker matchmaking system.

Navigate to the multiplayer menu in the Cursed Outpost, select "Join Breaker Team", and scroll to the bottom of the screen to choose "Join Random Public Breaker Team".

The game will then search for available public, non-password-protected Breaker Teams and assign you to one if available. After a brief loading screen, you'll find yourself in the world of the Breaker Team creator.

To leave a multiplayer session, return to the counter in the Cursed Outpost and access the multiplayer menu. If you're currently in a session, you'll see an option to disconnect at the bottom of the list. Selecting this will return you to your own world. Alternatively, you can simply quit the game to end the session.
