Marvel's upcoming Vision Quest series is reportedly resurrecting a villain from the very first MCU film, Iron Man.
Deadline reports that Faran Tahir will reprise his role as Raza Hamidmi al-Wazar, the Afghan terrorist leader who held Tony Stark captive in the opening scenes of the 2008 film. His character, last seen nearly two decades ago, will be making a return, mirroring the surprise reappearance of Samuel Sterns from The Incredible Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World.
While the release date for Vision Quest, starring Paul Bettany as White Vision, remains unannounced, al-Wazar's inclusion adds an intriguing element. His initial portrayal as a generic terrorist leader gained unexpected depth in Phase 4. The Ten Rings organization, initially only subtly referenced, was significantly expanded upon in 2021's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, retroactively establishing al-Wazar as one of their commanders. This suggests a potential connection between Shang-Chi and Vision Quest.
The series may also delve into previously overlooked MCU elements, similar to how Deadpool & Wolverine explored the less-conventional aspects of the former Fox Marvel universe. Further adding to the mystery, James Spader is also rumored to return as Ultron, his first appearance since Avengers: Age of Ultron. Details about Vision Quest remain scarce.
