League of Legends Reverses Course on Unpopular Updates Following Player Feedback
Responding to significant player feedback, Riot Games has announced a series of reversals to recent League of Legends (LoL) changes. A developer update, released February 27th, 2025, and accompanied by a YouTube video, outlines these adjustments. The developers acknowledged that previous updates missed the mark, stating they hadn't fully understood the impact of their decisions.
The Return of Hextech Chests
A key element of the reversal is the reinstatement of Hextech Chests. Riot Games recognized the chests' importance to players, not just as a reward system, but as a significant contributor to the overall rewarding experience of the game. Starting with patch 25.05, players can earn up to ten chests and keys per act; eight via the free pass and two through the Honor system.
Exalted Mordekaiser Skin Delayed, Further Adjustments
The upcoming Exalted Mordekaiser skin, along with the entire Exalted skin line, has been delayed to allow for further refinement and to better align with its intended design. This also means the planned release of an Exalted skin in every act this year will not occur.
Addressing player concerns about Mythic Essence availability, one non-Prestige skin will be replaced with 25 Mythic Essence in the paid pass. Furthermore, acknowledging feedback on Blue Essence and champion shard costs, Riot Games will reduce the Blue Essence cost for all champions by 50%, effective patch 25.05.
The Clash game mode's reduced frequency is also being reversed. A monthly schedule is returning, with an ARURF Clash event in March and a standard SR Clash event in April.
Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop Restored
Popular features, Your Shop and the Blue Essence Emporium, are making a comeback. Your Shop is scheduled for release in patch 25.06, and the Emporium in patch 25.07.
Riot Games emphasized their commitment to ongoing improvement based on player feedback, highlighting these changes as a crucial step in the continuous refinement of League of Legends. The game remains free-to-play on PC.
