Lies of P Director Choi Ji-Won found a fresh perspective after experiencing Elden Ring: Nightreign’s network test, sparking interest in potential future projects. During the 2025 Game Developers Conference (GDC), Eurogamer interviewed Choi about the evolution of the Souls genre. Known for his admiration of FromSoftware games, Choi's influence is clear in the design of Lies of P.

Reflecting on Elden Ring: Nightreign, Choi shared, "I've tried [Nightreign] and it was very refreshing and new. So that obviously gave me the impression that they're good developers, always pushing their boundaries, imagination, and vision, which shows. This, in turn, motivated me to ensure the Overture experience is as exceptional as possible."

With this newfound inspiration, Choi is open to exploring multiplayer games. He stated, "In terms of our future endeavors, we are definitely open to any sort of consideration in the future."

Despite his appreciation for FromSoftware's work, Choi emphasized that his inspirations are diverse. In an interview with Games Radar+ at the 2025 GDC, he clarified, "I'm a fan of many types of games, and that variety of experiences and inspirations from different games is what I blend into my own Lies of P experience. Ultimately, it's a fusion of diverse inspirations from the games I love, which I then transform into the Lies of P experience tailored for our fans."

Overture Takes 15-20 Hours for Experienced Players

Choi disclosed that the Overture DLC is expected to take experienced players 15-20 hours to complete, packed with numerous bosses and content originally intended for the game's launch. He explained, "Overture is intricately connected to the base game, making its development feel like completing the Lies of P experience, which was a significant challenge."

Set as a prequel, Overture takes players back to Krat during its haunting final days, following a legendary Stalker. It incorporates new ideas, player feedback, and unused concepts that couldn't fit into the initial release due to production constraints. Choi likened this expansion to a Director's Cut, essentially serving as the final chapter of the game.

He added, "When we released the base game, we had to prioritize quality, which meant we couldn't include everything at once. The support from the community after the base game's release motivated us to deliver all we wanted in this expansion."

Overture is Not Connected to the Final Cutscene of the Base Game

In an interview with IGN at the 2025 Game Developers Conference, Choi clarified that the Overture DLC does not directly connect to the final cutscene of the base game. While the end of the base game hinted at potential future directions for the Lies of P universe, Choi confirmed in a November 2023 Director’s Letter video that a sequel is in the works, though details remain scarce.

Choi assured fans, "When we share news or media with you, you'll know we're ready to present it. Our focus on quality amidst all pressures remains our priority. So, when we share those contents and news, we will be fully prepared."
