Mario Kart World Direct Reveals
An Interconnected World
Nintendo's Mario Kart World Direct on April 17 provided an in-depth look at the game's features. Players can now explore an expansive world filled with familiar and new regions, seamlessly connected by roads that link various courses.
Nintendo states, "In Mario Kart World, the game’s courses are interspersed across the world with roads leading from one to the next – so players can experience navigating roads in between courses!"
Embark on a journey through Mario's world, enjoying scenic views and iconic landmarks while uncovering hidden items and missions to enhance your driving skills beyond the racetrack.
The game introduces both new and classic courses, such as Mario Bros. Circuit, Crown City, Salty Salty Speedway, Starview Peak, Boo Cinema, Toad's Factory, Peach Beach, and Wario Shipyard. These classic tracks have been reimagined to seamlessly blend with the expansive Mario Kart World experience.
Grand Prix and Knockout Tour
Mario Kart World offers two main racing modes: Grand Prix and Knockout Tour, both accommodating up to 24 racers, marking a series first. Racers must navigate various obstacles, including Bullet Bill-launching cars and Hammer Bros. attacks.
In the Grand Prix, players must complete four consecutive races to win cups such as the Mushroom Cup, Flower Cup, and Star Cup. A unique twist requires players to travel between races. Completing all cups unlocks a speculated "colorful course," rumored to be Rainbow Road.
The newly introduced Knockout Tour takes players on an extended journey across the world. This survival-style mode requires racers to maintain a qualifying position to advance, with elimination looming for those who fall behind.
Items, Characters, and More
Mario Kart World introduces a fresh arsenal of items, alongside returning favorites. New items include the Coin Shell, which can knock opponents aside while leaving a trail of coins, the Ice Flower, which freezes opponents on contact, and the Big Mushroom, which temporarily enlarges players to squash rivals.
The game's roster includes classic characters like Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Bowser, alongside newcomers such as Goomba, Spike, and Cow. Players can discover alternate costumes hidden throughout the world, adding to the game's immersive experience.
Playing With Friends
Mario Kart World offers diverse multiplayer modes. Time Trials allow players to compete against ghost data from other racers worldwide. VS mode enables customizable team races, while Battle mode returns with Coin Runners and Balloon Battle.
The game supports both local and online play, with up to four players able to race in split-screen on one system. Local wireless play supports up to eight players (two per Nintendo Switch 2). The new GameChat feature on Switch 2 enhances communication and screen sharing among players.
Additional features include Smart Steering to help players stay on track, Auto-accelerate for effortless driving, tilt controls for added immersion, and the new Joy-Con 2 Wheel for an authentic racing experience.
Mario Kart World promises to revolutionize the kart-racing genre with its open-world exploration. Set to launch on June 5, 2025, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2, stay tuned for more updates by checking out our related article below!
