Marvel Rivals mimics Overwatch in Spring Fest event

Marvel Rivals has unveiled its major Spring Festival event, launching this Thursday with a free Star-Lord costume and a unique game mode. In the Clash of Dancing Lions mode, teams of three will compete to score goals against opposing squads.

While many will immediately associate this mode with Rocket League (and understandably so), it bears stronger resemblance to Lucioball - Overwatch's first special game mode that itself took inspiration from Rocket League.

This comparison proves particularly interesting as Marvel Rivals currently appears to be outperforming Overwatch. The game needs original content to establish its unique identity and distance itself from Blizzard's title, yet its first major event reintroduces a nearly identical mode - albeit with Chinese New Year theming replacing Overwatch's Olympic Games aesthetic.

The wait won't be long though, as the Spring Festival kicks off shortly.
