Mortal Kombat 1 Gameplay Teased, Pro Tour Details Revealed

by Jason Feb 12,2025

Let's be frank: Mortal Kombat 1 is struggling. Season 3 content appears cancelled due to underwhelming sales, and the recently released Pro Kompetition trailer, showcasing the game's esports circuit, is underwhelming at best.

The 2025 Pro Kompetition boasts a total prize pool of $255,000. This is a relatively small amount, even by fighting game community (FGC) standards. Previously, many top players voiced concerns about insufficient prize money, highlighting the unsustainable nature of international travel for potentially meager earnings.

This year's competitive scene will likely see a geographical split, with a primary North American and a European player base, converging only at EVO 2025, considered the premier fighting game tournament.

While there's palpable excitement and attempts to generate hype—to some degree, successfully—the reality behind the enthusiastic marketing and the teased in-game T-1000 image is rather bleak.
