Capcom Unveils New Onimusha: Way of the Sword Gameplay Featuring Miyamoto Musashi

Capcom recently showcased fresh gameplay footage for its upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The reveal, part of the PlayStation State of Play event, not only offered a glimpse into the game's impressive sword-based combat and imposing enemies but also confirmed the legendary Miyamoto Musashi as the protagonist.

PlayThe trailer highlighted Musashi's exceptional swordsmanship alongside a more playful, comedic side to his personality. Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game featuring one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. Interestingly, Musashi's in-game likeness is reportedly based on the late Toshiro Mifune, a renowned Japanese actor known for his portrayal of Musashi in various samurai films.

The game's setting is Kyoto, under siege by a malevolent entity called Malic, which is summoning demonic forces from Hell into Japan. This marks the first new Onimusha game in two decades. To build anticipation, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, launching May 23, 2025.
