Oscar Isaac to Appear at Star Wars Celebration, Fueling Return Rumors

by Patrick May 03,2025

Star Wars Celebration 2025 is set to ignite excitement among fans with the confirmed appearance of Sequel Trilogy star Oscar Isaac. The event, taking place in Tokyo from April 18 to 20, has sparked rumors of Poe Dameron's potential return to the beloved franchise. The official Star Wars Celebration Instagram announcement has fueled speculation, especially after Rey actress Daisy Ridley's appearance at Star Wars Celebration 2023, where she announced her involvement in a new Star Wars film.

The Sequel Trilogy concluded in 2019 with "Star Wars: Episode 9 - The Rise of Skywalker," leaving fans with mixed feelings. Isaac has publicly oscillated between expressing dissatisfaction with his Star Wars experience and showing openness to returning. Initially stating in 2020 that he'd only come back for financial reasons, his stance softened by 2022, telling Variety that he was "open to anything."

Isaac has also criticized Disney for rejecting his idea of a romance between Poe and Finn, played by John Boyega, indicating that "the overlords were not ready for that." Boyega, too, has expressed negative sentiments towards Disney and the franchise but later hinted at being open to future roles.

With speculation rife about the return of all three main characters in the upcoming Rey film, set 15 years after "The Rise of Skywalker," fans are eager for updates. The film, directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, is slated for a potential release on December 17, 2027, though Disney's repeated delays on Star Wars projects keep fans on tenterhooks.

Ridley has voiced her wish for Boyega to join her in the new film, and with Isaac rounding out the Sequel Trilogy's main trio, his return could complete the ensemble. While definitive announcements might be made at Star Wars Celebration 2025, fans may need to wait longer to see how everything unfolds due to Disney's ongoing delays in releasing new Star Wars films.
