People Can Fly, the Polish studio renowned for Outriders and Gears of War: Judgment, has confirmed additional layoffs as it cancels two projects: Project Gemini and Project Bifrost.
"Today we made a very difficult decision to suspend the development of Project Gemini and Project Bifrost — the relevant updates have been shared with the public," CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski wrote in a statement.
"The suspension of Project Gemini stems from the Publisher’s failure to provide a draft of the subsequent content rider to the Publishing Agreement, outlining terms for future milestones on Gemini, along with a lack of communication regarding their intent to continue or terminate the project."Project Bifrost was halted due to the same issues, combined with an analysis of the Group’s cash flow that revealed insufficient prospects for securing the organizational resources and funding needed to advance this project."
The CEO concluded: "As a result, we must significantly restructure as a studio and reduce our team sizes — which is the most painful outcome. We deeply regret how these events have unfolded and sincerely thank everyone for their contributions up to this point."
While Wojciechowski’s statement does not name the publishing partners behind the decision, People Can Fly’s own website confirms Gemini was developed in partnership with Square Enix, while Bifrost was a self-published initiative. Square Enix has not yet responded.
The company previously "scaled down" operations when it laid off 120 workers at the end of last year. It is currently collaborating with Krafton and Sony on Project Echo and Delta, respectively, and with Microsoft on Gears of War: E-Day.
People Can Fly’s most recent release is Bullestorm VR, a refreshed version of the classic shooter for Meta Quest and PSVR 2.
