Sony Unveils Enhanced PS5 Beta Update: Personalized 3D Audio and More

Key Beta Update Features

Announced on PlayStation.Blog by Sony's VP of Product Management, Hiromi Wakai, the new PS5 beta update introduces personalized 3D audio profiles, refined Remote Play options, and adaptive controller charging.

The highlight is personalized 3D audio profiles for headphones and earbuds. Users can optimize their audio experience by creating profiles tailored to their hearing. Compatible devices, such as the Pulse Elite wireless headset or Pulse Explore wireless earbuds, facilitate sound quality tests for profile generation. This results in more immersive gameplay by improving sound localization.

This is particularly beneficial for multi-user households, allowing primary users to restrict access to specific individuals. Access management is found within [Settings] > [System] > [Remote Play] > [Enable Remote Play].

For users of the latest slim PS5 model, adaptive controller charging is included. This feature optimizes power consumption by adjusting charging times based on battery level while the console is in rest mode. Enable this via [Settings] > [System] > [Power Saving] > [Features Available in Rest Mode], selecting [Supply Power to USB Ports] > [Adaptive]. This conserves energy by cutting power to USB ports after inactivity.

Beta Participation and Global Rollout

PS5 New Beta Update Brings Several QoL ImprovementsCurrently, the beta is limited to invited participants in select regions (U.S., Canada, Japan, U.K., Germany, and France). A global release is planned for the coming months. Invited users will receive email invitations with download instructions. Note that beta features may change or be omitted from the final release based on user feedback.

Wakai highlighted the importance of community feedback in shaping these updates, stating, "Thanks to feedback from our PlayStation community, we’ve introduced many new features and refinements over the past few years to enhance your gaming experiences on PS5." Sony anticipates valuable feedback from beta testers.

Building Upon Previous Updates

PS5 New Beta Update Brings Several QoL ImprovementsThis beta follows the Version 24.05-09.60.00 update, which introduced URL-based game session invites. Users share a link from the game session action card, allowing others to join open sessions via QR code scanning. The new beta expands on this social feature with enhanced personalization and control options.
