Sonic 4 Release Date Revealed

by Henry Mar 14,2025

Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is slated for a March 2027 theatrical release. Paramount Pictures has officially set the release date for March 19, 2027, according to Variety, giving fans a two-year wait until the blue blur returns to the big screen. Beyond the date, no further plot details have been revealed.

This sequel seems almost guaranteed following the phenomenal success of Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which raked in $218 million domestically and over $420 million worldwide. This makes it the highest-grossing Sonic film to date, significantly surpassing the first film's $148 million. This success is particularly impressive considering the initial controversy surrounding the original Sonic design, which underwent substantial changes during post-production.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3 also holds the distinction of being the second highest-grossing video game movie in North America, trailing only the animated Super Mario Bros. Movie, continuing the cinematic rivalry between Nintendo and Sega.

PlayThe live-action Sonic franchise has steadily expanded, now encompassing three feature films and a Knuckles-centric spin-off streaming series.

Based on the popular Sega video game series, the films follow Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz) as he battles his nemesis, Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey). Each installment has introduced more iconic characters, including Tails (Colleen O'Shaughnessey) and Knuckles (Idris Elba), with the latest film finally introducing Shadow the Hedgehog (Keanu Reeves).

While Sonic 3 revealed the next character joining the franchise, we'll keep that a surprise. For those eager to learn more, our new character guide awaits (read at your own risk!). Don't forget to check out our Sonic 3 review as well.
