On April 9, Sega took to Twitter (X) to announce that Sonic Rumble will hit the global market on May 8, 2025. Accompanying this exciting news was a fresh trailer showcasing dynamic gameplay footage, giving fans a glimpse of what to expect.Sonic Rumble marks the franchise's first foray into multiplayer party gaming, allowing up to 32 players to compete in a variety of levels and game modes. Sega describes the game as, "Players control a character from the Sonic series as they navigate a toy world crafted by the notorious Dr. Eggman, tackling challenging obstacle courses and perilous arenas!"
Given its free-to-play model, concerns about potential pay-to-win elements have surfaced. However, Sonic Rumble Director Makoto Tase addressed these concerns during an interview with Automaton at the Tokyo Game Show 2024 in September 2024. He reassured fans, stating, "We’re aiming for a casual system that allows you to purchase exactly what you want for a small, fixed amount, steering clear of a gacha system that relies on probability for item acquisition."
