Sony Cutting PS4 Games from PlayStation Plus Next Year

by Blake Mar 05,2025

Sony is phasing out PlayStation 4 games from its PlayStation Plus Essentials and Games Catalog starting January 2026, focusing its efforts on PlayStation 5 titles.

This shift, announced alongside February 2025's PlayStation Plus monthly games, means PS4 games will be offered less frequently in the monthly games and Games Catalog. Existing downloads remain unaffected, and Games Catalog titles will stay accessible until their scheduled removal.

Sony emphasizes its commitment to enhancing PlayStation Plus, promising continued benefits like exclusive discounts, online multiplayer, and cloud saves. The company cites a player shift towards PS5 gaming as the rationale for this change, noting increased PS5 title redemption and access.

With the PS4's launch in 2013 and the PS5's in 2020, Sony's decision reflects the evolving gaming landscape and the growing PS5 player base. The future placement of PS4 games within the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog (currently featuring PS1, PS2, and PS3 titles) remains unconfirmed, with further details expected closer to the implementation date.
