With Nintendo ceasing regular updates for Splatoon 3, anticipation for a Splatoon 4 release is reaching fever pitch.
Nintendo Halts Splatoon 3 Updates
Splatoon 4 Speculation Intensifies Following Update Conclusion
Nintendo has announced the end of regular content updates for its acclaimed shooter, Splatoon 3. However, the game isn't entirely abandoned; holiday events like Splatoween and Frosty Fest will continue, along with ongoing monthly challenges, weapon adjustments, and balance patches as needed.
"After 2 INK-credible years of Splatoon 3, regular updates are concluding," stated the official Twitter (X) announcement. "But don't worry! Splatoween, Frosty Fest, Spring Fest, and Summer Nights will return! Weapon adjustments will be released as needed. Big Run, Eggstra Work, and Monthly Challenges will continue for now."
This announcement followed the September 16th conclusion of Splatoon 3's Grand Festival, commemorated with a video retrospective of past Splatfests. The video featured Deep Cut's final performance, with Nintendo expressing gratitude for player participation.
The cessation of active development on Splatoon 3, two years after its September 9th launch, has reignited rumors of a sequel. Speculation about Splatoon 4 is particularly strong.
Intriguingly, some players believe they've discovered potential easter eggs or even spoilers within the Grand Festival event, suggesting a new city might be the setting for the next installment. One fan commented on a metropolis-like location, suggesting, "Doesn't look like Inkopolis. Perhaps the setting of Splatoon 4?" Others, however, remain unconvinced.
While no official announcements regarding Splatoon 4 have been made, rumors have persisted for months, suggesting Nintendo has begun development on a Switch sequel. The Grand Festival, as the final major Splatfest, further fuels this belief.
Past Splatoon Final Fests have influenced subsequent sequels, leading fans to speculate on a potential "Past, Present, or Future" theme for Splatoon 4, based on Splatoon 3's concluding event. However, concrete information remains elusive until Nintendo makes an official announcement.
