Exciting news for Star Wars fans and strategy game enthusiasts: EA's much-anticipated Star Wars turn-based tactics game is set to be unveiled at Star Wars Celebration 2025. This untitled project, announced in early 2022, is being crafted by Bit Reactor—a studio founded by veterans from Firaxis Games, renowned for their work on the acclaimed XCOM series. Bit Reactor has been collaborating closely with Respawn Entertainment, the developers behind the Star Wars Jedi series, to bring this new game to life. Fans will get their first glimpse of the game on April 19 during a live panel featuring key members from Bit Reactor, Respawn Entertainment, and Lucasfilm Games, as listed on the official Star Wars Celebration 2025 schedule.
While specifics about the game's setting and gameplay mechanics remain under wraps, the involvement of XCOM's former developers suggests a thrilling tactical experience infused with the rich lore of the Star Wars universe. This collaboration promises to blend strategic depth with the iconic elements of Star Wars, potentially offering players a unique way to engage with the galaxy far, far away.
In other Star Wars gaming news, Respawn Entertainment is also working on the third installment of their Star Wars Jedi trilogy, although it won't be featured at this year's Celebration. Previously, Respawn had been developing another Star Wars project—an untitled first-person shooter rumored to center around a Mandalorian protagonist. However, this project was canceled amidst a significant restructuring at EA, resulting in the loss of about 670 jobs. Additionally, earlier in March, Respawn canceled a multiplayer first-person shooter incubation project and reduced the team working on it.
Beyond gaming, Star Wars Celebration will also showcase previews of other exciting projects. Fans can look forward to a sneak peek at the upcoming "The Mandalorian & Grogu" movie, slated for release in May 2026, as well as a first look at "Star Wars: Visions Volume 3."
