The patent emphasizes the Joy-Con's mouse-like functionality, sparked by the Switch 2 reveal trailer, which showcased the controller being dragged across a surface, hinting at its use as a mouse. The Switch 2's Joy-Con retains the familiar detachable design from the original Nintendo Switch, but with a notable addition: mouse functionality. According to the patent, "The sensor for mouse operation detects reflected light from a detected surface, the light changing by moving over the detected surface in a state in which either the first side surface or the second side surface is placed on the detected surface."
Additionally, the Joy-Con can be charged using a new dock capable of charging two Joy-Cons simultaneously. A new magnetic attachment also connects the Joy-Con to the console, featuring a wrist strap reminiscent of the original Switch's Joy-Con.
