"Switch 2 to Sell Out at Launch, Analysts Say; June Release Eyed"

by Mia May 14,2025

The price of the Nintendo Switch 2 is a hot topic within the video game industry, with analysts predicting a launch price of around $400. A recent Bloomberg report aligns with these predictions, based on insights from Japan-focused analysts. This price point would mark a significant increase from the original Nintendo Switch, and some analysts have even speculated that the price could climb to $499. Despite this, the consensus among experts is that the Nintendo Switch 2 will enjoy a massive launch, potentially becoming the biggest console launch ever, regardless of its price.

"They will sell boatloads of Switch 2 in the first months in particular, almost regardless of the price," Tokyo analyst Serkan Toto told Bloomberg.

The anticipated success of the Switch 2 at launch can be attributed to the high demand for its launch lineup of games. Serkan Toto expects a new Mario Kart, as teased by Nintendo during the Switch 2 reveal, a new 3D Mario game, and the already announced Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4 to be released within the first year. Additionally, Toto anticipates strong third-party support, including Call of Duty from Activision.

There is a long list of rumored third-party titles coming to the console. In an interview with IGN, Civilization 7 developer Firaxis called Switch 2's apparent Joy-Con mouse mode "definitely intriguing." French video game and accessories maker Nacon, known for titles like Greedfall 2, Test Drive Unlimited, and RoboCop: Rogue City, has confirmed it has games ready for the Switch 2. The much-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong is also rumored to be coming to the platform. Last month, EA expressed interest in bringing Madden, FC, and The Sims to the Switch 2.

It's worth noting that Activision has yet to announce its plans for the Switch 2, and Nintendo has not commented on the report.

When will the Switch 2 be released? June 2025 is increasingly mentioned, not just online but in games media circles. Robin Zhu, a Japan-based analyst from Sanford C. Bernstein, told Bloomberg that the Switch 2 is expected to launch in June with an initial stock of 6-8 million units. If Nintendo sells through this inventory quickly, the Switch 2 could outsell its predecessor and the PlayStation 4 and 5, setting new records.

There has been some concern about how U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff war might affect the price of the Nintendo Switch 2. The Trump administration has imposed new tariffs on goods from China, Canada, and Mexico, which could impact the price and availability of video games and consoles. However, Bloomberg noted that the Switch 2 will be assembled in Vietnam, a major U.S. trading partner, as well as China, which could help mitigate these risks.

There’s still much we don’t know about the Switch 2, but Nintendo plans a Direct for April 2, where it will reveal more about the console.

How Much Do You Think the Nintendo Switch 2 Will Cost at Launch? ----------------------------------------------------------------

The Nintendo Switch 2 was revealed earlier in January with a brief trailer that confirmed backwards compatibility features and the addition of a second USB-C port. Most details, such as its other games and what the mysterious new Joy-Con button does, were left out, though the Joy-Con mouse theory gained traction.

Last month, a Nintendo patent suggested that the Switch 2’s Joy-Con controllers could be attached upside down. It seems the Switch 2 operates with gyro mechanics similar to how phones work without screen lock. Unlike the original Nintendo Switch, which used rails for the Joy-Cons to attach and lock into place, the new controllers feature magnets, presumably allowing them to be attached on either side.

While this won't make a significant difference on the hardware front, it will allow players to choose where they'd like certain buttons, the headphone port, and so on. If this feature makes it into the final product, the flipping ability may spark interesting gameplay mechanics, too.
