The game introduces a new protagonist, Yakumo, a young ninja from the rival Raven clan, striving to become a Master Ninja. Art Director Tomoko Nishii (PlatinumGames) describes Yakumo as a character who can stand alongside Ryu Hayabusa, the series' iconic hero. While Yakumo takes center stage, Ryu Hayabusa remains a significant figure, serving as a major challenge and mentor for the new protagonist. Ryu will also be playable.

While distinct from Ryu's fighting techniques, the developers assure fans that the action will feel authentically Ninja Gaiden. The game aims to maintain the series' challenging gameplay while incorporating PlatinumGames' dynamic combat style.
