Eclipse Glow Games, in a recent Wccftech interview, revealed the inspiration behind Tides of Annihilation's Arthurian setting and London backdrop. The game's Western focus, they explained, stemmed from Tencent's strategic direction. While Black Myth: Wukong targeted the Chinese market, Tides of Annihilation was designed to appeal to a Western audience, hence the Arthurian legend choice. The core concept evolved around the knight archetype, ultimately leading to King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table.
Arthurian Knights and Post-Apocalyptic London
Set in a post-apocalyptic London ravaged by an Outworld invasion, Tides of Annihilation follows Gwendolyn, seemingly the last human survivor. The game blends a modern-day setting with fantasy elements directly inspired by Arthurian myths.
Devil May Cry-Inspired Combat and Challenging Boss Battles
The gameplay, reminiscent of Devil May Cry, features customizable combat styles with four weapons and over ten Knight companions. Gwendolyn commands these legendary Knights as she navigates ruined London, uncovering the mysteries behind the invasion. Players will face over 30 bosses with unique challenges. The developers emphasized the demanding nature of these boss encounters. Accessibility is also a focus, with simpler controls for less experienced action game players.
Potential for an Anthology
Eclipse Glow Games hinted at a potential franchise expansion, exploring different settings and mythologies, each featuring a new protagonist. The Outworld invasion would remain a central element. The success of Tides of Annihilation will determine the future of this ambitious anthology project.
Currently in beta, Tides of Annihilation is slated for a 2026 release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Players will journey with Gwendolyn as she confronts destiny and battles to save London and the intertwined realms of reality and Avalon.
