MachineGames, the studio behind Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, has confirmed a heartwarming detail: players won't be able to harm dogs in the upcoming game. This article delves into this decision and other game features.
No Harm to Hounds in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle
Indy's Affection for Canines Confirmed by MachineGames
While video games often feature violence against animals, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle takes a different approach. MachineGames Creative Director, Jens Andersson, revealed to IGN that, "Indiana Jones is a dog person." This commitment to animal welfare means that while Indy will engage in combat with human foes, his interactions with dogs will be entirely non-lethal. This marks a significant departure from the studio's previous work, such as the Wolfenstein series.
Andersson explained, "It’s a family-friendly IP in many ways," highlighting the decision to avoid harming animals. "How do we do that well? Well, these are the kind of things that we do. We have dogs as enemies, but you don’t really hurt the dogs. You scare them away."
Launching December 9th on Xbox Series X|S and PC (with a PS5 release tentatively scheduled for Spring 2025), Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is set in 1937, between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. The narrative follows Indy as he pursues artifacts stolen from Marshall College, leading him on a globe-trotting adventure from the Vatican to Egyptian pyramids and even the submerged temples of Sukhothai.
Indy's trusty whip serves both as a traversal tool and a weapon, allowing him to disarm and subdue human opponents as he navigates open-world-inspired environments. Rest assured, dog lovers: Indy's whip will remain untouched by canine companions throughout this exciting adventure.
