Warframe: 1999 Unveils at TennoCon 2024

by Lillian Feb 11,2025

Warframe's TennoCon 2024 delivered a knockout punch with the announcement of Warframe: 1999, a major update promising a nostalgic trip back to the cusp of the millennium. Get ready for a blast from the past with this immersive experience.

The adventure begins with a prologue quest, "The Lotus Eaters," launching in August 2024. This quest reunites players with a beloved Warframe character and sets the stage for the main event, introducing the world of 1999 and the new Warframe, Sevatgoth Prime, along with its exclusive weaponry. Completing "The Lotus Eaters" is a prerequisite for accessing Warframe: 1999, slated for release in Winter 2024.

Warframe: 1999 plunges players into an alternate 1999, where a deadly Y2K virus threatens global catastrophe. The setting is Höllvania, a vibrant 90s city corrupted by Techrot. Players will navigate this retro-futuristic landscape using the new Atomicyles, agile vehicles capable of bullet jumps, drifts, and even explosive maneuvers. Leading the charge is the Hex, a team of six heroes, each wielding a Protoframe – a Warframe design showcasing the human pilot.

The Hex boasts a star-studded cast of voice actors, including Alpha Takahashi, Ben Starr, Melissa Medina, and Amelia Tyler. Interact with them through in-game instant messaging for a truly authentic 90s experience.

Adding to the 90s theme, players will face off against On-lyne, a Technocyte-infected boy band led by the charismatic Zeke (voiced by Nick Apostolides). Their infectiously catchy music will be available on major streaming platforms.

Fashion takes center stage with significant upgrades to the fashion system. Players can equip two fashion frame loadouts and utilize the new Gemini Skins to bring Protoframes like Arthur and Aoi into the Origin System. These skins unlock fully voiced dialogue for combat and idle moments, enhancing the experience.

Anime Arthur and Aoi

Beyond the core gameplay, Digital Extremes is collaborating with THE LINE to produce an anime short based on Warframe: 1999, releasing later this year. Additionally, new Heirloom skins for Ember (available now) and Rhino (early 2025) are on the horizon.

With Warframe: 1999's Winter 2024 release date approaching, now is the perfect time to jump into the action. Download Warframe today from the App Store.
