To Improve Game Stability and Localizations

FLINT, the developers behind ASTRA: Knights of Veda, have announced the removal of English dubbing support in the game on January 23, 2025. This decision aims to enhance "game stability and higher-quality localizations." The announcement was made on January 20 as part of a Language Support adjustment update.

Following the maintenance on January 23, support for languages such as German, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Italian will be discontinued. However, the game will continue to support Korean, English (text), Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, French, Thai, and Russian.

While English language support remains intact, the in-game English voiceovers will be removed. Post-maintenance, "countries outside of Korea will now have their In-Game Voice option set to Japanese." FLINT assures that these changes will not impact players' ability to chat in any of the languages previously supported.

Despite potential concerns among fans, FLINT is committed to "continuing to provide better services and experiences for our Masters of the Book."

Other Gacha Games That Removed English Voiceovers

FLINT is not alone in this decision. Other gacha games have also taken steps to remove or limit English voice-over support:

  • Square Enix’s War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius announced in May 2024 the removal of English voice-overs for future content starting from Main Story Part 3, Chapter 8, and Another Story Chapter 3, Scene 7. Existing content will retain English voice-overs, but new content will switch to Japanese. This shift prioritizes the Japanese language for future content.

  • Yostar Games’ Aether Gazer decided in February 2024 to remove all English voice-overs post the "Crepuscular Cloudsong" version release. This move was driven by financial constraints, redirecting resources to enhance gameplay, performance, and future content.

  • Amazing Seasun Games’ Snowbreak: Containment Zone followed suit in December 2023, removing English voice-overs starting with Version 1.4. The decision was made after evaluating voice-over preferences and aiming for an optimal gaming experience.

These decisions across various games highlight a trend towards prioritizing languages preferred by the majority of players and optimizing resource allocation. Maintaining English voice-overs can become costly over time, especially for games that release content continuously. By focusing on the most preferred languages and reallocating resources, developers aim to enhance the game's longevity and improve aspects most valued by their player base.
