Baldur's Gate 3's Patch 7: A Million Mods and Counting!
Larian Studios' highly anticipated Patch 7 for Baldur's Gate 3 has unleashed a tidal wave of community-created mods. The response has been phenomenal.
Larian CEO Swen Vincke himself tweeted about the incredible uptake, stating over one million mods were installed within 24 hours of the September 5th release. This figure was quickly surpassed, with mod.io founder Scott Reismanis reporting over 3 million installs and counting!
Patch 7's impact extends beyond the sheer number of mods. It introduced significant new content, including evil endings, improved split-screen, and, critically, Larian's own integrated Mod Manager. This streamlined tool allows players to easily browse, install, and manage mods directly within the game.
The existing modding tools, accessible via Steam, empower modders to craft their own narratives using Larian's Osiris scripting language. These tools allow for custom script loading and basic debugging, with direct publishing capabilities.
Looking ahead, Larian is actively pursuing cross-platform modding, a challenging but crucial goal. While initially prioritizing the PC version, the studio plans to extend support to consoles following thorough testing and submission processes. This phased approach allows for early identification and resolution of any potential issues.
Patch 7 also delivered a wealth of other improvements: refined UI, new animations, expanded dialogue options, numerous bug fixes, and performance enhancements. With more updates on the horizon, we anticipate further news regarding Larian's cross-platform modding ambitions.
