EA has introduced microtransactions into Skate during its latest alpha testing phase, preceding the official release date announcement.
As detailed by Insider Gaming, developer Full Circle implemented microtransactions into the ongoing closed alpha for EA’s free-to-play Skate revival.
Players can now spend real money on an in-game currency named San Van Bucks, which is used to purchase cosmetic items. It seems Full Circle aims to evaluate Skate’s transaction system, stating the goal is to ensure players have a “positive experience when buying items from the Skate store.”
“Your feedback will be highly valuable in shaping a smooth experience at Early Access launch,” the developer message continues.
Insider Gaming also reported that Full Circle has informed testers that all progress will be fully reset prior to Skate’s early access launch. Any purchases made during testing will be converted back into San Van Bucks and returned to players at the start of early access.
Skate’s early access launch is scheduled for 2025. The game was initially announced during EA Play all the way back in 2020, but at that stage was described as being "very early" in development. Since then, Full Circle has kept the community informed through closed community tests of early builds and development updates shared via its "The Board Room" video series.
The studio officially confirmed in 2022 that the game would simply be called ‘skate.’ Additionally, it was announced that the title would be free-to-play on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
