Deadlock Announced Major Update In Months

Four-lane Map Becomes Three Lanes

Deadlock Changes from Four Lanes to Three in New Major Update

Deadlock’s latest major update transforms their map from four lanes to three, streamlining the game's structure and enhancing other features. On February 26, 2025, Valve detailed the full map rework and other mechanic adjustments in a Steam post.

The redesign involves converting the four lanes into three, accompanied by a "large range of map-wide changes regarding visuals, building layouts, pathways, neutral camps, air vents, breakables, powerup buffs, juke spots, mid boss, etc." Deadlock distinguishes itself in the MOBA genre with its third-person perspective, and the shift from a four-lane to a three-lane setup aims to simplify gameplay.

Moreover, changes to farming enemy troopers have been introduced, eliminating the need to last-hit enemies to summon Soul Orbs, thus making early laning phases more accessible. The patch notes also mention improvements in the game’s netcode and client performance, promising a smoother gaming experience.

Vital Update for Deadlock

This update could be the catalyst Deadlock needs to re-energize its player base. In September 2024, the game hit an all-time high with 171,490 active players. However, by the following month, player numbers had dropped by 90%, settling at around 17,000 players.

Valve Developer Yoshi mentioned in January 2025 on Deadlock’s Discord server that the team would adjust their update schedule. The previous two-week cycle hindered their ability to implement desired changes. Yoshi stated, "Going forward, major patches will no longer be on a fixed schedule. These patches will be larger than before, albeit a little bit more spaced out, and hotfixes will continue to be released as needed. We look forward to fleshing out the game in the new year."

Deadlock remains in active development and playtesting, accessible only via friend invite. There are no official announcements regarding a specific release date. For more information on the game, visit our Deadlock page.
