Nintendo confirms that players can navigate the Switch 2 Home screen using Joy-Con mouse controls.
Since the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal, speculation has swirled about the functionality of its redesigned Joy-Con controllers. Last month's official confirmation revealed the controllers' "mouse mode" capability - allowing players to slide them across surfaces while using analog sticks for left/right clicks like traditional mice. Interestingly, users can operate two Joy-Con simultaneously in mouse mode (one per hand) or mix modes between controllers.
Mouse Controls Coming to Switch 2 Interface
The latest Nintendo Today app demonstration (shared via X/Twitter) showcased this functionality extending to the Switch 2's Home menu navigation.

Nintendo explains: "When placed attachment-side down on any flat surface, the Joy-Con 2 activates an on-screen cursor. Simply move the controller across surfaces to navigate."
The company added: "Mouse control mode enables menu scrolling via thumbstick tilts, functioning across both the Home interface and supported software." Returning to traditional thumbstick use requires repositioning the controller horizontally.
Confirmed Compatible Titles
While full game compatibility remains unconfirmed, Nintendo demonstrated the feature working with Switch 2 versions of Mario Party Jamboree and Metroid Prime 4, plus the upcoming wheelchair basketball title Drag x Drive.
The Nintendo Switch 2 launches June 5, with pre-orders (priced at $449.99) going live April 24 - unsurprisingly selling out almost immediately. For purchasing details, check IGN's comprehensive Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
