Hideki Kamiya Wants To Do Devil May Cry Remake
Devil May Cry Remake Will Not Be Made Like 24 Years Ago
The gaming industry has seen a resurgence of remakes, with classics like Final Fantasy VII, Silent Hill 2, and Resident Evil 4 being brought back to life by their legendary creators. Joining this trend could be the original Devil May Cry (DMC), as its director, Hideki Kamiya, has voiced his interest in remaking it.
In a video posted on his YouTube channel on May 8, Kamiya responded to fan questions about remakes and sequels. When asked about his vision for a DMC remake, he enthusiastically stated, "A remake like that, well, I would like to do that."
First Released 2001
Originally launched in 2001, Devil May Cry was initially conceived as Resident Evil 4. However, significant deviations from its original concept led Capcom to pivot and create the standalone title DMC.
Reflecting on the game's origins nearly 25 years later, Kamiya shared a personal anecdote. He revealed that the game's inception was influenced by a personal heartbreak in 2000, which fueled the creation of DMC.
Kamiya admitted that he does not revisit his games after their release, including DMC. However, when he occasionally views gameplay clips, he is reminded of the game's age and its dated design elements. Should he undertake a remake, Kamiya plans to rebuild it entirely, leveraging modern technology and contemporary game design principles.
Currently, the idea remains a distant thought for Kamiya, who only fleshes out concepts when a project is confirmed. Yet, he remains open to the possibility, stating, "But if the time comes— I’ll come up with something. That’s what I do."
Beyond DMC, Kamiya has also expressed interest in remaking Viewtiful Joe. With these insights, fans of Kamiya's work eagerly anticipate the potential return of these cherished titles in the form of a modernized remake.
