In the thrilling world of 7 Days To Die, mission variety keeps the gameplay exciting. While some missions, like buried treasure hunts, are relatively straightforward, others present a significant challenge. As you progress through trader tiers, unlocking increasingly difficult missions, you'll encounter the formidable infested missions. These missions involve clearing buildings teeming with undead, offering substantial XP, valuable loot, and rare rewards. This guide details everything you need to know about conquering these infested missions.

How To Start An Infested Clear Mission

To begin any mission, you must visit one of the five traders in a standard map: Rekt, Jen, Bob, Hugh, and Joe. The trader's identity is less important than the mission's location and tier. Higher tiers signify greater difficulty. The biome also impacts enemy strength; forest missions generally feature fewer ferals than wasteland missions.

Infested missions become available after unlocking Tier 2 missions, requiring completion of 10 Tier 1 missions. These missions are significantly harder than standard clear missions, featuring increased zombie numbers and tougher variants like radiated zombies, cops, and ferals. Tier 6 infested missions are the game's most challenging, but by that point, you should be well-equipped. Regardless of tier, the objective remains consistent: eliminate all enemies within a designated area.

Completing An Infested Clear Mission

Upon reaching the Point of Interest (POI), activate the mission marker to begin. Leaving the area will result in failure, as will death (respawning outside the mission zone).

Each POI has trigger points—events activated by entering specific areas. These could involve collapsing floors or ambushes. To avoid these, explore alternative routes, bypassing the typically well-lit paths the game intends you to follow. Carrying building blocks is advisable; they allow quick escapes from traps or provide unconventional access points, enabling surprise attacks on the undead.

Activated zombies are indicated by red dots on the screen; dot size corresponds to proximity. This helps track zombie locations, preventing being overwhelmed. As in most zombie games, headshots are the most effective method. However, certain zombies possess unique abilities:

Zombie TypeAbilitiesHow To Handle Them
CopsSpit toxic vomit and explode when injuredWatch for their head-throw before spitting; use cover and maintain distance to avoid explosions.
SpidersJump across large distancesListen for their screech before they jump; prepare for quick headshots.
ScreamersSummon other zombies with screamsPrioritize eliminating them to prevent hordes.
Demolition ZombiesCarry explosive packagesAvoid hitting their chests; if the explosive beeps, run.

The final room usually contains high-tier loot, but it's also heavily guarded. Ensure you're fully healed, weapons are loaded and durable, and you know the escape route before entering. Knowing your exit strategy is crucial for survival.

Once all zombies are eliminated, the objective changes to reporting back to the trader for your reward. Collect all loot from the final room, including the infested cache (containing valuable ammo, magazines, and other items).

Infested Clear Mission Rewards

Upon returning to the trader, you'll choose a random reward. Reward quality depends on:

  • Game Stage
  • Loot Stage (enhanced by the Lucky Looter skill and Treasure Hunter mod)
  • Tier Selection (higher tiers yield better rewards)
  • Skillpoint Selection (the "A Daring Adventurer" perk increases Dukes earned and allows selecting two rewards at rank 4).

After claiming your rewards, sell unwanted items to the trader; each Duke earned from sales grants 1 XP. Selling in bulk provides a significant XP boost.
