Hollow Knight: Silksong's second post-launch update is now in development.
While the initial patch tackled "critical issues," this next release addresses other persistent problems, along with "fixing some bugs related to specific tools." (We assume this refers to software glitches, not the insects found in The Citadel!)
Before its full rollout, Team Cherry is testing the new version through Steam's public beta branch. This allows anyone to opt in and download it, though with the caveat that while it includes fixes, it may also be unstable — something to keep in mind. Learn more about the public beta on the game's Steam discussion page.
Judging by the patch notes below, Update 2 doesn't introduce any major balance overhauls, following Update 1's easing of the early game. However, it's worth noting Team Cherry hinted that players should "expect a few more additions and tweaks" before the full release, so the developers might still have some surprises planned.
Hollow Knight: Silksong Update 2 Patch Notes:
Added a Dithering effect option in Advanced video settings. This reduces color banding but may slightly soften the appearance of foreground elements. Defaults to 'Off'. Updated the Herald's Wish achievement description to clarify that players must complete the wish and finish the game. Fixed an issue where the Savage Beastfly in Far Fields could remain submerged in lava. Resolved rare cases of Shrine Guardian Seth escaping bounds during combat. Added a safeguard to prevent Lugoli from occasionally flying off-screen and not returning during battle. Further reduced the likelihood of Silk Snippers becoming stuck out of bounds in the Chapel of the Reaper fight. Fixed various instances where dying to a boss while defeating it caused death sequences to play incorrectly or out of sync. Fixed a softlock caused by Shaman Binding into a bottom transition. Adjusted Cocoon positions in certain areas to prevent spawning in inaccessible locations. Fixed Liquid Lacquer courier delivery being unavailable in Steel Soul mode. Corrected an issue where some NPCs wouldn't play cursed hint dialogues in specific situations. Fixed Pondcatcher Reed being unable to fly away after singing. Addressed an issue where Verdania memory orbs sometimes replayed layered screen-edge burst effects. Fixed the break counter not functioning for certain multi-hit tools, such as the Conchcutter. Resolved Volt Filament damage multiplier not applying to certain Silk Skills. Fixed Cogflies and Wisps incorrectly targeting Skullwings. Corrected Cogflies erroneously resetting their HP to full on scene changes. Fixed Curveclaw always breaking on the first hit after being deflected. Addressed issues where Plasmium Phial and Flea Brew sometimes didn't restore as intended at benches. Various other minor tweaks and fixes.
We considered Hollow Knight: Silksong 'Amazing,' giving it a 9/10 and noting: "Silksong is brimming with precise platforming, captivating exploration, and intense combat that's unapologetically challenging in the best way. However, Hell is Us creative director Jonathan Jacques-Belletête described Team Cherry's last-minute release as "somewhat callous."
