Semiwork Studios has unveiled its roadmap for REPO, revealing exciting new features set to debut in the game’s first major update. Among the highlights is the much-anticipated "Duck Bucket"—a clever new tool designed to neutralize the game’s deceptively dangerous yellow duck. Discover what else is coming, including a new map and public lobbies, and learn how Lethal Company’s creator is weighing in on REPO’s evolving design.
Duck Bucket: The Ultimate Duck Defense
In REPO, players face a unique threat: a seemingly innocent yellow duck that transforms into a terrifying apex predator when provoked. To help teams manage this chaotic menace, Semiwork Studios is introducing the "Duck Bucket" in the upcoming update. This new item allows players to trap the duck, preventing it from following them and eliminating the risk of accidental transformation—especially from overeager teammates.
The Duck Bucket isn’t just a gameplay fix; it’s a quality-of-life upgrade that reduces unintended chaos and keeps the focus on strategic item retrieval. Alongside this feature, players can expect new facial expressions for characters and other refinements aimed at enhancing immersion and communication.
Introducing "The Museum" Map and Public Lobbies
The update will also introduce a brand-new environment: "The Museum." Designed to challenge players’ agility and coordination, this map emphasizes parkour-based navigation through intricate layouts. It’s a fresh twist on REPO’s tense exploration, encouraging teamwork and precision movement under pressure.
To improve accessibility and matchmaking, Semiwork Studios is developing public lobbies based on extensive player feedback. While the team acknowledges the technical challenges—particularly in implementing a kick function and server-side matchmaking—they’re committed to delivering a system where players can choose between public and private sessions. As they noted, “Adding a kick button might sound simple, but it involves complex server coding—a new frontier for us.” As a result, this feature may arrive in a later patch.
Extraction mechanics are also getting a visual upgrade: extraction zones will now display a clear boundary indicator, so players can easily tell whether their loot is within range—no more guesswork during high-pressure escapes.
Lethal Company Creator Weighs In on REPO
Since its February release, REPO has drawn inevitable comparisons to Lethal Company, sharing its co-op horror DNA and tense, teamwork-driven gameplay. On March 15, Lethal Company creator Zeekers shared his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), offering constructive feedback for REPO’s development team.
He initially found the game slow and criticized the limited voice chat range, saying, “Voice chat range is too small!” But he quickly warmed up to the experience, praising the humor and tension of collaborative tasks: “Everyone in the group working together to move a grand piano through a cramped old mansion without scraping it—that is like the most funny objective for a horror game.”
In follow-up comments, Zeekers highlighted two key areas for improvement:
- Expand voice chat range and reduce audio muffling to improve team coordination.
- Reevaluate open-world level design, noting that vast spaces don’t align well with the game’s core strengths—much like in Phasmophobia. He believes REPO shines brightest in tight, claustrophobic environments like the mansion layout.
He also agreed with community concerns about enemies approaching silently, stating, “Yeah, there also needs to be an in-game way to learn about how enemies work, but I'm sure they're planning that.”
